Mateus Lara Carvalho

The Batatinha

I've worked in technology for over ten years, building projects across front-end, back-end, WordPress and other platforms. I like to understand what needs solving before I start building, and to talk through the possibilities along the way.

01About

Mateus, but you can call me Batatinha.

I've been working in development since 2015, on projects spanning front-end, back-end, WordPress, e-commerce and integrations. Before starting, I like to understand what needs to be done, talk through the possibilities, and figure out the best way to approach it.

I'm based in Belo Horizonte and work remotely with clients in Brazil and other countries, including the United States, Spain, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada. I speak Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and I like to keep communication simple throughout the project.

And Batatinha? It's a childhood nickname. When I was a kid, people said I looked like Batatinha from The Little Rascals. The nickname stuck.

04AI

A lot of people ask me about AI. Here are the answers.

AI is already part of my work, and I see it as a natural evolution of the tools we use to build. It helps save time, explore possibilities and even think some solutions through better. It doesn't replace experience or people, but it can make the work a lot easier.

  1. 01

    Do you use AI?

Yes, every day. I use Claude, Codex, Cursor, Lovable, Figma Make and other tools at different stages of the work. Sometimes to build, sometimes to research, test an idea or simply think down another path.

  2. 02

Does it change price and timeline?

It can. Some tasks that used to take a long time can now be solved faster, and that naturally helps the project's timeline and cost. It depends on what needs to be done and how much AI actually helps in that case.

  3. 03

    What about quality?

The care is the same. What I do with the help of AI also goes through review, tests and the same criteria I use in the rest of the development. It can help reach a solution faster, but it still needs checking that it really works for the project.

  4. 04

Can you put AI in my project?

In some projects, yes. It can be smarter search, support, content generation, automations or integrations with tools you already use. First I understand what you need, then I see whether AI is really a good option.
